     It's a powerful thing to allow someone to step inside the most personal and intimate spaces in your life, into your home.

     The Stronghold is where I grew up, a small cabin in the woods in the mountains of Colorado. Our home was not a grand lodge-style cabin that you may be envisioning, with a word like "stronghold", but a fortified dwelling none-the-less.  After my mother’s heart-shattering diagnosis of ALS she was not only losing her life, but her home was about to turn into a care ward.  It became imminent to focus on access and function of space.  How could we give her the absolute best medical care while keeping the sentiment of “home” she spent a lifetime curating in-tact?  

     Stronghold Design was born from seeing the way people function in spaces both physically and emotionally.  We spend most of our lives between walls, so we take great care in creating specific environments for each facet of our lives.  Between the walls of our home necessity and function were paramount, and even more so once we saw how that diagnosis would unfold.  Form and function had to be equal.  The value of curating our environments is endless.  Being intentional when designing, or redesigning, these spaces can elevate productivity,  joy, focus, rest… an innumerable list of things.  My mother’s dream cabin in the woods was beautifully fortified physically through remodeling interior and exterior spaces for handicap use and emotionally by elevating the warmth and comfort of the home.

     The design process for Stronghold Design begins with listening to the clients share what their “stronghold” should look and feel like.  This collaborative process takes greater shape by applying inherent passion for architecture and design along with formal education and professional practice to give shape and definition to what the client’s shared with us.  It gets personal!  Not every client is design challenged.  Time prevents many people from curating their environments in today’s busy world.  We are privileged to have so many wonderful clients share their visions and needs with us, along with our selected builders and contractors, giving us the opportunity to bring their ideas to life.  Whether it’s building a new home, remodeling or adding to an existing home, redecorating or refurnishing and updating the aesthetic of the home, we would love to meet you!  Stronghold Design is here to fortify your environment.
